Farm Service Operator (FSO)

Job Advertisement

Ethical sourcing of cocoa beans, from rural communities of producing countries like Ghana, by chocolate confectionery companies still remains a major challenge. This is because the upstream of the supply chain is characterized by deforestation, child and/or forced labour. To address these challenges two main regulatory policies have been recently implemented by the EU, EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). On the contrary, the main causes of these challenges from the perspective of farmers and some researchers hinge on fair prices to offset laborious farm activities and the high cost of cocoa farm inputs. Also, due to the predominant small/ scale nature of the cocoa landscape, it is very challenging to commercialize the sector.
Ethical Sourcing and Sustainable Agri Contractors Limited (ESSAC) is on a mission to create an โ€œagri-sustainability service modelโ€ tailored to meet both international market standards and the Ghanaian cocoa farming landscape.
